One door closes, another door opens. A MONEY door!

(^ Not a thing.) Hey, everyone! I was more than happy to pound the last nail into the Mets' 2017 season yesterday, but I was also happy that I could get to pickin' former Mets for my slate -- because aw yeah, the Notorious B.P.P. is back for another year.

As a matter of fact, no, I did NOT leave any coffee for anyone else. Okay, good talk.

Anyway! I've posted the rules/regs below. You should get these in your email inboxes later today; please note the changes to the stats in use. I'm trying to even things up a bit pitcher-/hitter-pick-wise; new FOX postseason announcer Keith Hernandez would not approve, but he doesn't have to know. Info's after the jump; in the meantime, dig the full postseason sked here.

Today's a day of rest before the play-ins begin Tuesday 8 ET on FOX. Your deadline, as always, is the morning of the LDS.

Hello friends and fans of baseball (and money),

Welcome (back) to Bunting's Postseason Baseball Pool -- the postseason pool for everyone! You don't need to know a lot about baseball; you just have to know who's in the playoffs, and how to count. And that last one is optional, now that I think about it.

The set-up and instructions for entry appear below. If you see a ***, that means it's a change from last year (and you'll be seeing several, as I've (possibly over-)simplified the stat collection). For an overview of previous years' action, feel free to browse around the BPP blog, http://buntingspostseasonpool.blogspot.com.

Think I left someone off the dist list? Forward at will.

Deadline for picks/payment is THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5 at NOON ET.

Sarah

PS I welcome questions/discussion BUT please don't reply all! Thank youuuuu!

THE SCORING

It works like this: you pick three (3) position players, and three (3) pitchers. You get points based on the performances of those players, as follows:

*** Position-player points come from total bases.

single, e.g. = 1 pt.

double = 2 pts.

triple = 3 pts., etc.

For example, in the game linked below, Asdrubal Cabrera notches 2 points:

*** Pitcher points come from strikeouts, and/or other extraordinary performance, but may be lost on BB.

each K = 1 pt.

each BB = -1 pt.

throws a complete game = 3 pts.

throws a no-no/perfecto = 10 pts.

So, Matt Harvey in the same game cited above notches nada, because he had 3 K, but also 3 BB, and didn't go 9. And that's the last time anyone's going to be talking about that guy. Don't get me started.

*** "Hey Buntsy: How come you pared the stats back so far?" Well, it's not even that deep a cut -- if you look at the first few years of the pool, it was, like, dingers and whiffs, period -- but the fact is, while the stats we've used the last couple years did give a more accurate barometer of a player or pitcher's "true" performance, we...just kind of don't need to be doing that. It's a pool, not sworn testimony; let's keep it simple. As well, the pitcher stats, and specifically the IP, kept skewing the importance of the hurlers, to the point where the hitter picks were irrelevant...unless stranding runners killed one of your guys...you get the point. tl;dr: real busy with other shit, as are we all; trying to keep it simple.

THE MONEY

Entry is $10 a pop. PayPal it to bunting at tomatonation dot com. (Don't have PayPal? Email me off-list.)

Winner takes 70 percent of the pot; second place takes 20 percent; third place takes 10 percent.  In the event of a tie, the money will be divided evenly between/among players with the same point totals.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

"Do my players and pitchers have to be on the same team as each other?"  No.

"Can I duplicate other people's picks?"  Yes. (You won't see everyone else's picks until all the picks are in anyway.)

"Can I play a half slate for half the money?"  No. Too complicated.

"Can I play more than one slate?"  You can play two slates max. Your slates must be different from each other.  Each slate is $10.

"Can I pick my slate early and just risk it re: the wild-card selections?" Of course. You can also pick your slate early and choose only from the known division winners. I am open for business; how you pick is your call.

"How am I supposed to keep track of the stats?"  You aren't; I do all that. Do feel free to check my work, though. (Especially after 2016, when Sarah was the worst at add.)

"Can I forward this to my friend/loved one/co-worker?"  Sure! If s/he's got the ten clams, s/he's welcome to play. The more the merrier.

"Who won last year?"  Sheehan Bell LLC is your incumbent. Go get 'em.

HOW TO ENTER

PayPal me $10 and your picks by THURSDAY OCTOBER 5 at 12 PM ET.  bunting at tomatonation.com is the account. 10/5 at noon is the deadline and is not negotiable. If we are related by blood or marriage, you may hand me a sawbuck. Everyone else can use PayPal or some other electronic means.

You must pay to enter; you are not entered until you get an email from me saying so; you may not enter late. $10 by 10/5 at 12 ET.

When you send your pool money, I will send you an email confirming your picks and receipt of the money. I'll also post the points breakdown on the blog on a daily basis (or as close as possible to that); once again, that's here: http://buntingspostseasonpool.blogspot.com/.

Have fun! Questions/edits/human frailties, email me.
