CLE 6, NYY 4; Standings, October 8, PM

It looked like a possible comeback -- lights-out throwing from Farnsworth, A-Rod finally on the board with a dinger, a great catch by Damon and a long ball by Abreu -- but it ran out of gas. And so did a bunch of picks.

A-Rod got his pickers 2 points before departing the postseason (and possibly the Bronx); I also picked up a point for Rivera's lone K, plus 7 for Cleveland's game/series win, joined by Andrew, but this is an ill wind for the pool at large -- every slugger pick but Broomfield/Romine's is now gone, and Dad, Tim, Ben, and Maria Deuce are out of the running.

Below, the current standings. Entrants with no picks left are in italics, and will not appear in future updates. (Sorry, guys.)

42: Broomfield/Romine
35: Tom
29: Aaron C.
27: Matt, Aaron M., Lauren
25: Broomfield, Jill
21: Sarah
20: John
18: Andrew
15: Maria Trips
13: Joe, Famous Original Maria
12: Ben
11: Tim, Maria Deuce
7: Angela, Zach
6: Dad

Grim...but not a foregone conclusion, not yet. The herd's a bit thinner, but there's still some excitement ahead.

Feeling deep bitterness towards Soriano and the Cubs. Starting to understand what pain Cubbies fans experience on a yearly basis. Why didn't I pick Manny as my slugger??? Thrilled that the Phillies got swept. The curse of the Sports Ilustrated cover strikes again. All of my hopes to pull off the comeback and defend my 2nd place finish of last year rely on the Red Sox now.... Go Sawx!!!
