NYY 5, CLE 2; Yankees move on

The older I get, the more heartbreaking I find these losses sometimes for the players, whose littlest mistakes loom so large in the postseason...and for the Cleveland fans, oo-fah.

With that said: dang, Soto! And it's a fascinating outcome; I really didn't think the Yanks had the pitching to get out of the ALDS, and they look like likely World Champs right now.

Fair bit of baseball between now and then, though -- and some off days to get rusty in -- so let's turn our attention to the points and admin.

Naylor 1
Ramírez J 0
Thomas 0

Judge 0
Soto 7
Stanton 4

And you know what the italics mean.

A fairly typical last set of stats for this LCS; Thomas is the pool's LVP for the series, but Judge is in that conversation...and so is Ramírez, who looked worse than his stats IMO. That last swing puts Soto in front for MVP; Gleyber Torres angling for the Victorino out of the AL.

Okay, here come the standings, which just got a lot more interesting for some thanks to Soto...and irrelevant for a few others.

81 Bauer OMG
80 MArbour 2
77 Bauer Snooze

Everyone else after the jump...

70 Shotwell 1

65 JArbour Winklepleck LLC and Quinn
64 Cameron 2
60 Johnson

56 SDB Sorry, Wonsetler, and Stempel
51 Dunn
50 SDB Safe

48 Tormey, Fell 1, and Shotwell 2
45 Cameron 1 and Drake
41 Bingham 2

38 Fell 2
37 Reid 2
35 Reid 1
33 Bingham 1

25 MArbour 1
24 Brady

The slates in italics will drop out of future updates. A handful of others have no real shot at catching the leaders thanks to duplications among the remaining picks, but let's worry about that next week. For now, congratulations to the Yankees and their fans -- and let's turn our attention west, where the Mets take on the Dodgers in NLCS Game 6 at 8 ET on FS1.

Good luck to everyone; any input/math errors, LMK!

I do agree the Yankees look the most complete right now 🤢 Hopefully the other NY team will run back a LCS victory on the road soon enough. Feel bad for those long suffering Cleveland fans. 1948…

To get Soto'd at home in extras...I mean, force majeure, really, but it's still rough.
