SEA 3, DET 2 (15) (mmmm hm); Mariners move on

I am 100 percent, in the words of the great philosopher Murtaugh, too old for this shit, but I stayed up until the wee hours seeing last night's game through, and: worth it. Worth it to see an extra-innings postseason game that didn't end with a jump-scare error we were still obsessing about a day later; worth it for all the jokes and GIFs on Bluesky (clearly I'm going to have to cut a GIF of Pierzynski's "I'm bunting here!"). Not quite a where-were-you-when moment, but pretty close.

And the outcome was the better one for the pool, although the Tiger picks did really well in their limited time.

Lord knows a seventeen-week game gives everyone a bunch of point opps, so let's have a look.

Carpenter 7
Greene 0

Arozarena 0
Canzone 0
Crawford 1
Naylor 4
Polanco 1
Raleigh 1
Rodriguez 0
Suarez 0

Your MVP is Big Dumper; LVP...I guess Canzone, but among those with better opportunities, Rozie and Suarez didn't do as much as you'd hope. And you don't have very many UN-picked Mariners, but maybe birthday boy Rivas goes on a tear in the LCS and gets himself in line for the Victorino.

Two picks out; no slates knocked out, but one zombie fell out of the money, and this is the last time you'll see those two in the full updates...and here's one of those now:

50 Bauer Snoozical
48 Shotwell 1
47 Cameron Second

45 DGB, Mectomy, and Yuhan
44 Izzo 2
43 AK Uno, Quinn 2, and Izzo 1
42 Mopsiukas 1
41 Bingham Prime

And the rest of us after the jump!

39 Green
38 Winklepleck 1 and AK Dos
37 Cameron First
36 Wonsetler 1 and Drake 2

35 MArbour 1 and Fell 1
34 Dunn 2 and Reid Alpha
33 Crase A
L

32 O'Reilly and Wonsetler 2
31 Shotwell 2
30 Bauer Fun

27 The Estros and Reid Omega
26 Fell 2, Drake 1, JArbour, MArbour 2, and Brady

23 Tormey and Dunn 1
22 Bingham Emo
21 Quinn 1
20 Crase NL

19 Winklepleck 2
17 Mospiukas 2
13 SDB Prayers

At the top, you see the range of picking strategies I find so fascinating year after year. All players from one team? Sure, that works! Judicious blend of underpicked dudes getting hot and predictable first-balloteers? Also effective! Three randos and a dream? Y...eah, sometimes that gets it done ("she said confidently, having spent a parent's $10 on just that angle").

And that's a wrap on the ALDSes; Seattle heads east for ALCS Game 1 tomorrow night. TONIGHT, it's...well, it's in Milwaukee; neither team has announced a pitcher at this writing. Cubbies are underdogs according to "the line," but I'm not sure about that. If they (well, PCA) can keep their shit together emotionally I think they're a decent bet.

But that's what we're doing here, after all...that one's at 8:08 PM ET on TBS. Anything looks weird with my math/the list, leave a comment, and good luck...

When the game began I was at a show at the Bell House, and I was checking the score on my watch during the first show, and then put the broadcast on my phone in dim mode during the second show. It was still going on my drive home, so I had the TV broadcast on my phone while I was driving. The walk off happened when I was 10 minutes away from home, and you better believe I screamed in excitement. Such a fantastic, and stressful game.

It was completely wild seeing the whole thing. Such good material on socials, too; I'm proud of everyone ;)
